Presenting Paul Danneels, finalist of the European CIO of the Year 2013 awards

Paul Danneels, CIO of VDAB

Paul Danneels (Belgium) is reputed for being one of the first Belgian CIOs to have integrated Google’s public cloud applications in VDAB. He is helping the public employment services to move towards a new business model and create a new eco system to orchestrate the labour market. Paul has quite a number of large IT projects under his belt.

He spent a large part of his career at vendors; after a few years as a research assistant at Vlerick, he joined CSC where he contributed to the expansion of the European organisation. Afterwards, he moved to IBM, then became CIO of the Federal Agency for Safety of the Food Chain and eventually worked for the Federal Agency for Medicines & Health Products.

Since 2007 he works for VDAB (5,000 workforce) where he is currently implementing his second strategic ICT plan. “At VDAB, we aim to stay ahead of the game in ICT. We also want to see how changing your technological viewpoint at work can reduce the pressure on budgets and your personnel.”
