Presenting Andrew Marks, finalist of the European CIO of the Year 2013 awards

Andrew Marks, CIO of Tullow Oil

Andrew Marks (United Kingdom) is CIO for Tullow Oil plc., a leading independent oil and gas, exploration and production group. Andrew’s Information Systems team provides services across Tullow’s interests in 15 African countries, as well as sites in Europe, Asia and South America.

On arrival at Tullow in 2007, Andrew focussed on bringing a dispersed team together, at that time providing services to 250 staff in five countries. As Tullow grew, so did the scale and complexity of IS delivery. Andrew led a major re-organisation in April 2010 through which clearer definition of Project Delivery from Service Delivery was established and greater alignment with Business Unit and Functional teams was achieved through the introduction of IS Business Partners. In September 2012, Andrew presented a value-led strategy that took his team forward once again.  Andrew describes this as running IS like any business: ‘have a clear strategy; focus on value; be commercial.’

Prior to his time at Tullow, Andrew has fulfilled a number of IT Leadership roles. Training as a geologist, his first roles were on the user side of the fence, before stepping across and applying his own experience to deliver value through better IT services to his internal customers.
